Color is often the main attraction in a lot of very attractive artworks, it can be full colored and some are black and white with a few pops of color. But you don’t always have to put different shades and hues to add life to your piece. French Artist Nicolas Delort has a detailed collection of inkwork that speak different tales behind people, events and places. While really edgy and extraordinary his work sparks the viewer’s curiosity and lures them to look for his works implied meanings.
Every artist has their own style in creating their masterpieces, but like most Nicolas starts with visualizing the story he wants to tell on his canvas and goes from there. Aided with his 0.05 pigment marker, sable brush and scratchboard nib he begins to sketch.
Nicolas admires from artists who enhance their artwork using digital or technical approach but is still very comfortable with his style. “I have nothing much to offer in brightly colored drawings but here, I can be who I am! That’s what I like about art. You may leave your own mark on it when you play with it. It is subjective which makes it open for other interpretations.”
Some tips from Nicolas Delort:
- Show yourwork to others. Don’t worry, you’ll eventually get used to people’s opinions about your work depending on how they see it.
- Experiment with your work. Don’t be afraid to try different brush strokes, styles and mix contrasting ideas. Some successful works are products of random thoughts.
- Be yourself. Sometimes, it doesn’t help when you try to be competitive because it forces you to do things you can’t. Some of the best ideas often come to mind if you RELAX.
If you’re like Nicolas Delort who likes to draw or sketch and feel that your work is perfect in that way, then just concentrate on that. Besides, a good image can stand alone even if it’s in black and white.
